THE PURPOSE...
ENGAGE aims to help Christian home-educating families in the challenging, yet rewarding task of raising godly children in an increasingly ungodly world. With teaching sessions that are Biblical, relevant and practical, our purpose is to encourage and equip families to...
Jesus said, "...Go therefore, and make disciples of all the nations..." - Matthew 28:19a
Above all other things, our motivations for discipling and educating our children should be for the purpose of raising men and women who know, love, worship and serve Christ. Looking at the Great Commission as the ultimate "why" behind the "what" of Family Discipleship & Home Education, this conference will give you the opportunity to...
All sessions are be age-integrated, and the topics covered will revolve around the Biblical foundations for Family Discipleship & Home Education, rather than educational aspects such as curriculum, resources & learning strategies. NOTE: Although we want to minimise distraction within the main sessions, and will provide a room to take/watch your own children if required, there is no expectation that younger children will be sitting still the entire time. If young children want to use the floor area near your seats to draw/read or do a "quiet" activity, or even snuggle up to sleep next to you, that is totally fine. Also, the schedule is designed to help parents manage having their children with them. Please contact us if you have any questions on this or if we can help you further as we want to encourage families attending together where possible.
Kris Baines, founder of The Psalm 12:1 Project and one of the pastor-elders of Redemption Church (formerly Calvary Chapel Christchurch) had the idea of doing this conference as a way of encouraging and equipping Christian home-educating families. Previously Kris has helped to organise men's conferences here in Christchurch (Courageous Living Men's Conference 2012, Fatherhood Conference 2013). As a home-educating parent himself, together with his wife Becky and their 8 children - Kris understands the unique challenges we face here in NZ as home-educating parents. With no shortage of seminars and conferences on the purely educational aspects of home-education, Kris felt there was a strong need for a conference with a spiritual and Biblical focus. This is how ENGAGE came into being. Working in collaboration with Jason Winslade (pastor-elder at Redemption Church and home-educating father of 5), and other pastors, leaders and home-educating families, this conference is something we hope will continue for many years, and be a blessing to Christian families here in the South Island.

Kris Baines lives with his wife Becky and their 8 children in Rolleston. He is one of the pastor-elders at Redemption Church, a church Kris planted in 2002. In addition to pastoral ministry, Kris works part-time as a paramedic and also composes and writes music (www.krisbaines.com). In 2009, Kris founded The Psalm 12:1 Project - a ministry dedicated to the restoration of Biblical manhood. One of the greatest passions Kris has, is to see believers discover the blessings of God through obedience to His Word, in full dependence upon the person and work of Christ. Kris and Becky home-educate their children and love to encourage other families in the areas of marriage, parenting, family discipleship and evangelism.
Jason Winslade lives with his wife Claret and their 5 children in Rolleston. Jason left a corporate career in 2009 to give his time more fully to serving the body of Christ as a pastor-elder at Redemption Church. Jason is passionate about seeing the local church built up through embracing the sufficiency of scripture, biblically-qualified leadership, systematic bible teaching, along with biblically-functioning homes that thrive as hubs for both discipleship & evangelism
Of course the conference would be pointless without you coming along! The conference is open to all people, regardless of whether you home educate or not, but the primary emphasis will be on encouraging people who currently home educate. If you have questions about home education, or you are looking for encouragement for when you marry/have a family, you are very welcome to attend this conference and we know you will be encouraged. There will be no childcare as all sessions are age-integrated (with optional creche/children’s room) with the exception of some specific breakouts. ENGAGE 2016 is hosted by The Psalm 12:1 Project & Redemption Church. |
